Abstract

This paper explores the contemporary landscape of Cantonese folk song education in Guangdong Province, focusing on its cultural significance and the educational challenges it faces. Cantonese folk songs, as a vital part of Guangdong's cultural heritage, play an important role in preserving local identity and traditions. However, modern educational systems encounter difficulties in integrating these folk traditions into formal curricula, including limited resources, declining interest among youth, and insufficient institutional support. This paper examines both formal and informal educational practices, highlighting the cultural importance of folk song education and the pedagogical innovations aimed at revitalizing this tradition. Additionally, it addresses key challenges and proposes future research directions, including comparative studies with folk music education in other regions, exploring youth engagement with traditional music, and the potential of digital platforms to enhance the transmission of folk songs. Through this analysis, the paper contributes to the broader discourse on cultural preservation and the role of education in sustaining intangible cultural heritage.
